About SimpleVida

SimpleVida launched in 2022 as a digital extension of WildDreamerStudio. It began with a physical gallery presence in Cary, North Carolina, but has since evolved into a solely online platform. The goal remains unchanged: to show work that steps outside conventional gallery culture and to create a flexible space for experimentation, presentation, and curatorial independence.

SimpleVida exists because not all art needs a physical room to matter. Here, artworks, series, and ideas are presented in real time, fluid, in progress, and unbound by the commercial or stylistic predictability of traditional exhibition models.

The website accepts the reality of mediation: digital images are not surrogates for standing before a painting, but they are useful windows into the living practice of an artist and curator whose work has spanned decades.

About the Artist / Curator: Natacha Sochat

Natacha Sochat is an artist whose practice is rooted in lived sensory experience and she approaches making as a direct form of thinking: the hand is the mind. Her process relies on intuition and chaos alongside disciplined technical mastery, embracing unpredictability rather than resisting it.

Sochat works across painting, printmaking, textiles, ceramics, metals, wood, mixed media, and found objects. Her materials are not decorative choices; they are extensions of lived experience, objects and substances carrying memory, ancestry, use, and physical presence.

Her guiding belief, developed over decades, is that “the actual experience is the work of art.” Books she reads, films she watches, music she listens to, food, textiles, and the social realities of contemporary life all inform the work. Personal history, cultural context, and the psychological responses of others are active components in the images she creates.

Born in New York City and raised in Manhattan and the South Bronx, Sochat was the first in her family to receive formal education. A lifelong synthesis of science and art informs her approach, rigorous thinking combined with experimental material practice. Through WildDreamerStudio (est. 1998) and SimpleVida (est. 2022), she continues to create, curate, support, and present art as an evolving, interdisciplinary inquiry rather than a finished product.
